Meet Dr. Crissman

Dr. Amy A. Crissman O.D.:  Dr. Crissman specializes in diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, specialty contact lens fittings such as for astigmatism and bifocal lenses, as well as treatment for dry eye, computer vision syndrome and low vision rehabilitation.

Dr. Crissman  graduated with honors from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. She completed internships at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital Eye Institute, the Detroit VA Hospital and at a large private group practice in Louisville KY.

Outdoor activities such as biking, soccer, and skiing rank high for Dr. Crissman and her husband who live in Bloomfield Hills. Church, community, family activities and two cats take up most of their free time.

 She stays on top of the latest developments in eye research by annually attending  more than 20 hours of lectures held locally and nationally. Dr. Crissman is active in local, state, and national optometric associations. She is President of the Metropolitan Detroit Optometric Society where she served on the board for five years. In 1999 she received the honor of being inducted into the American Academy of Optometry as a fellow.

Joined private practice to perform quality, comprehensive eyecare in a professional setting. Provide vision and eye medical health examinations, specialty contact lens fittings, LASIK Vision co-management, treatment of dry eye disease and low vision rehabilitation. Management of the private practice including, staffing, marketing, patient relations and optical dispensary.

July Bergman-Porretta Eye Center, Farmington Hills, MI 2001, June-2002
Director of Optometric Services for a private practice ophthalomogy office. Duties included primary medical eyecare, co-management of ocular disease such as glaucoma and interaction with internal medicine physicians for ocular management of systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Created a contact lens practice which emphasized specialty fits. Developed a vision rehabilitation program which included bioptic telescope fitting and training as well as prescription and demonstration of a variety of magnifiers to enhance near vision. Assisted in staff training and administrative duties.

Henry Ford OptimEyes, Southfield, MI 1997, May-2001, June
Corporate office in which acted as the sole optometric provider for the same office for the four year time period. Provided care ranging from pediatric to geriatric population. Examinations ranged from primary optometric eyecare, management of ocular disease, laser vision correction co-management to specialty contact lens fittings. Served on company committee for quality assurance.

Eye Centers of Louisville, Louisville, KY 1997 (Jan.-May)
Internship Ophthalmologic/optometric eye care setting. Duties concentrated on secondary services such as ocular disease, pre and post operative cataract management and comanagement of glaucoma.

Detroit VA Hospital, Detroit, MI 1997 (Sept.-Dec.)
Internship Setting emphasized ocular pathology and ocular disease secondary to systemic disease. Interacted with ophthalmologists and residents. Participated in grand rounds weekly with Kresge Eye Institute.

Beaumont Eye Institute, Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, MI 1996 (May-Aug.)
Internship Performed specialty contact lens services, extensive low vision services, A and B scan ultrasonography; for detection and management of ocular tumors for the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS). Participated in refractive co-management.
